Innu Nation election marred by influx of alcohol


Elections for the Innu Nation of Labrador were marred by an influx of alcohol that sent drunk voters to the polls, CBC News reports.

Alcohol normally flows into the community of Natuashish in advance of a vote. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police said this year was one of the worst.

Intoxicated voters showed up to a polling place and said they were given alcohol by candidates. The Innu Nation is the entity that negotiates land claims.

Alcohol is legal in Natuashish but elders want it banned. The blame candidates for the alcohol problems.
