Tuesday night's edition of the HBO program "Real Sports with Bryant Gumble" featured a segment on the use of Indians as mascots.

Charlene Teters, a member of the Spokane Tribe of Washington and an activist and professor, criticized team names like the Washington Redskins and the Cleveland Indians. "It dehumanizes the people, and when you dehumanize the people, then we're vulnerable to racism and hate," she said, according to The Daily Lobo.

Billy Mills, a member of the Oglala Sioux Tribe of South Dakota, also appeared on the segment. Mills won the gold medal in the 1964 Olympics in Tokyo for the 10,000-meter race. He opposes the use of Indians as mascots.
