Tulalip tribal member re-elected in Washington

Washington State Rep. John McCoy (D), a member of the Tulalip Tribes, was re-elected by a 9-percentage point margin on Tuesday.

McCoy won with 54 percent of the vote compared to 46 percent for Republican Kim Halvorson.

McCoy was criticized by Halvorson for advancing tribal issues. The House District 38 covers the Tulalip Reservation. Halvorson founded a group critical of McCoy and the tribe's attempts to assert jurisdiction over non-Indians.
