Wampanoag tribal member resigns from town post

A member of the Aquinnah Wampanoag Tribe of Massachusetts has resigned from her town post amid tensions over finances and the tribe's impact on the town.

Beverly A. Widdiss was treasurer and administrator for the town of Aquinnah. She said she wasn't getting any "respect" from other officials.

Widdiss has shouldered blame for the town's financial problems. Some residents say the tribe needs to bail out the town by paying for more municipal services. The tribe already pays for police and emergency services.

Wididss' brother-in-law is married, the chairman of the town board, is married to a tribal member.
