BIA still hasn't ruled on out-of-state land acquisition

The Bureau of Indian Affairs still hasn't ruled on an Oklahoma tribe's out-of-stand land acquisition.

The Delaware Nation filed an application to have 480 acres in Maryland placed in trust. The tribe would then lease the site, for $1.4 million a year, for a landfill.

The BIA was said to be near a preliminary decision last week. Now, a ruling is said to be two weeks away.

Maryland Gov. Robert L. Ehrlich Jr. (R) opposes the request. Local officials have fought the landfill for years.
