Three charged in Indian gang-related shootings

Authorities in Minnesota filed murder charges on Tuesday for the deaths of two men in a gang-related shooting at an Indian housing complex in Minneapolis.

Edison J. Mahkuk, 19; Michael J. McFarlane, 24, and Vincent L. Williams, 21, are said to be members of the Native Mob gang. Authorities said they shot and killed two members of the rival Project Boyz gang at the Little Earth of United Tribes housing complex on Saturday morning.

According to the criminal complaint, the three men made gang-related comments before and after the shootings of Del Benjamin and Joseph Burns. Clyde Bellecourt of the American Indian Movement said the incident could be retaliation for a gang-related shooting on the Leech Lake Ojibwe Reservation.

McFarlane and Williams are being held in county jail. Authorities are still looking for Mahkuk.
