Native man traveling cross-country in wheelchair

A Native man who is disabled and diabetic has spent more than a year making his way across the country in order to draw attention to the lack of health care for Indian people.

Brian Eaglehelper, 40, an Iroquois from New York, says he became aware of the disparities first hand. He said disabled people on reservations need better health care, better medical equipment and more funds.

Eaglehelper started his journey September 2, 2002, in Washington. He is currently riding through New Mexico. He plans to make his way through Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, Florida before arriving in Washington, D.C.
