Judge upholds county's arrest on tribal land

Law enforcement in Placer County, California, have authority on land owned by the United Auburn Indian Community, a judge ruled.

The county and the tribe have an agreement to share law enforcement duties. County police are allowed to arrest people at the tribe's casino but must notify tribal authorities first.

A non-Indian who was arrested in the casino parking lot by the county tried to have the charges dismissed, saying the tribe wasn't notified. But the judge said the officer was in "hot pursuit" and was within his right to make the arrest.
