Narragansett tribal member ends hunger strike

A member of the Narragansett Tribe has ended her hunger strike after four days in response to concerns for her health.

Bella Noka, a council member, started her strike on Monday to protest treatment of the tribe. She accuses state and local officials of hindering the tribe's elderly housing project and of not working with the tribe in good faith.

The tribe's doctor and family members encouraged Noka to end her protest due to her weakened state. She was taken to a local hospital.
