Indian scientist calls study of physics sacred

NASA scientists Jerry C. Elliott says the study of physics "os one of the most sacred things you can do."

Elliott, an Osage and Cherokee man who grew up in Oklahoma, has worked on some pretty high-flying projects at NASA. She helped the Apollo 13 mission to moon by ensuring an unforeseen accident wouldn't harm the astronauts or space equipment. He also made sure of a safe landing. For his efforts, he received a Presidential Medal of Freedom, the highest civilian honor bestowed by the U.S. government.

Elliott now helps the American Indian Higher Education Consortium. He is giving the keynote at the organization's conference in Billings, Montana, tonight.
