Program will create jobs for San Felipe Pueblo

San Felipe Pueblo in New Mexico has entered into a partnership to train tribal members as carpenters.

The tribe and Central and Northern New Mexico Apprenticeship Association have created a program to pay tribal members to work on housing projects on the reservation. The tribal members will receive on-the-job training so they can receive certification for construction jobs anywhere in the nation.

Participants will earn anywhere from from $8.18 to $20 per hour. After they complete training, which can last up to two years for commercial and residential building, they will be certified as journeyman by the U.S. Department of Labor.
