Native students get tour of secretive laboratory

Seven Native students from the University of Montana and tribal colleges in Montana were given a tour of a government laboratory that performs research on the world's most infectious diseases.

The Rocky Mountain Laboratories, part of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, is a well-guarded facility. Students learned about ongoing projects on disease like tuberculosis, AIDS and chronic wasting disease.

The tour was arranged by the local American Indian Science and Engineering Society chapter to give students a first-hand look at careers in science.
