Republican governors report biggest donor in 2002

The top donor to the Republican Governors Association in the year 2002 was a firm run by a public relations executive whose high tribal fees are the subject of a Congressional investigation, The Washington Post reports.

The Post does not report how much the firm, Capitol Campaign Strategies, gave to the Republican group. The firm is headed by Michael Scanlon, a close associate of Republican lobbyist Jack Abramoff.

Scanlon and Abramoff charged four tribes at least $45 million for lobbying and public relations services. Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) plans to hold hearings on the high fees sometime this summer.
