Charter school shut down in tribal-related dispute

A charter school in Ukiah, California, was shut down on Monday in an apparent dispute with the Guidiville Band of Pomo Indians.

Tribal officials have been trying to close the Black Oak Charter School, according to The Ukiah Daily Journal. But school board members have rejected the attempts.

That didn't stop Walter Gray, the tribe's administrator, from ordering the school to be closed, according to the paper. Gray is in charge a lease the school has with the local fairgrounds.

The 34 students enrolled at Black Oak Charter School have been moved to another school, possibly for the rest of the term.
