California tribe wants OK for housing development

The city council in Fortuna, California, will consider the Bear River Band of the Rohnerville Rancheria's proposal for a housing development.

The tribe wants to build nine single-family homes and 20 multifamily homes on 3.9 acres in the city. It is not clear whether the land would be placed into trust but the tribe says it will pay for taxes and allow the city to regulate land use.

The proposal has been met with opposition. The last time the issue was considered, the hearing ran all night.
