Tribes meet to oppose outlet for North Dakota lake

Eight tribes from the U.S. and Canada met in North Dakota on Thursday to oppose an outlet at Devils Lake.

The tribes, particularly the Spirit Lake Nation, say the $25.7 million state project will harm sacred sites and burial grounds. They say the outlet is unnecessary because the lake will recede to lower water levels.

The tribes represented North Dakota, South Dakota, Minnesota and Manitoba, Canada.
