Concerns raised about new Agua Caliente museum

Some members of the Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians say the tribe's new museum is too big and is too close to an historic tribal village.

The 100,000-square-foot museum is due to open next year. It replaces the current museum, which is housed in small building in downtown Palm Springs.

Opponents say the museum site should be left alone because it is the ancestral homeland of the Cahuilla people. Even chairman Richard Milanovich questions the plans but he supports the goal of the museum.

Museum officials say there are no known archaeological or burial sites at the site.
