Appeals court affirms ex-tribal official's guilty plea

The 8th Circuit Court of Appeals won't overturn the guilty plea of a former tribal executive who stole from the Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewas of North Dakota.

Raymond Poitra pleaded guilty to embezzling $577,000 from Uniband, a tribal company. He was chief executive officer of Uniband and created a fake company to do business with the company.

Poitra, 58, was sentenced to four years and nine months in prison. He was ordered to pay $577,397 in restitution.
