Eastern Cherokee hospital gets technology upgrade

Thanks to a $1.2 million donation from a casino company, the Eastern Band of Cherokees will be able to upgrade technology at the tribe's hospital.

The money from Harrah's Entertainment will be used to purchase a CT Scan machine, upgrade the radiology department and develop an electronic records storage system, The Smoky Mountain News reported. Tribal members have been traveling as far at 50 miles to get CT scans.

The Eastern Band took over the Cherokee Indian Hospital from the Indian Health Service.
