Direct service meeting raises tribal health concerns


The first annual Direct Service Tribes health conference was held in Phoenix, Arizona, last week.

Tribes met with the Indian Health Service to discuss their concerns. According to The Gallup Independent, funding was a top issue.

Navajo Nation Vice President Dayish pointed out that the federal government spends more per capita on prisoners than for Indian patients. The tribe is supporting a 15 percent increase in the IHS budget.
