Foundation donates $500K for urban Indian health


The Aetna Foundation, the philanthropic arm of the Aetna health care and insurance company, will donate $50,000 to urban Indian health programs in California.

Of the donation, the Oakland-based Native American Health Center will use $40,000 for a dental program targeting 80,000 Indian adults and children living in the Bay area. The San Francisco-based Friendship House Association of America Inc. will use $10,000 for substance abuse prevention and recovery services.

Norman Pico Sr., an official with the Pechanga Band of Luiseno Indians, helped secure the donation.
