Coeur d'Alene Tribe mourns death of revered elder

The Coeur d'Alene Tribe of Idaho is mourning the loss of Lawrence G. Nicodemus, a tribal elder who worked to preserve the Snchitsu'umshtsn language.

Nicodemus died Saturday at the age of 94. He spent his life developing materials to keep the language alive. He created language books for the tribe and developed a high school and college course in Snchitsu'umshtsn.

Nicodemus also served as a tribal judge and on the tribal council.
