Blackfeet/Cree drum group takes top honors

The Blackfeet Nation of Montana gave a hero's welcome to five tribal members whose drum group took top honors at the Schemitzun pow-wow.

High Noon won a total of $50,000 in prizes at the pow-wow, held last weekend on the Mashantucket Pequot Reservation in Connecticut. The group took first place in the Northern/Contemporary category for a purse of $25,000, first place in the hand drum competition for $5,000 more and second in overall singing, for an additional $20,000.

High Noon is based out of the Thunder Child Reserve in Saskatchewan. The other members of the group are Cree. Their recordings can be found on Canyon Records.
