A member of the Passamaquoddy Tribe of Maine is fighting a proposed liquefied natural gas terminal on the reservation.
Stephanie Bailey says a vote in favor of the terminal doesn't reflect the true opinion of tribal members. She's been going door-to-door with a petition against the proposal.
The project requires the tribe to host a terminal on 42 acres of its Pleasant Point Reservation, also known as Sipiyak. Supporters say it would up to 1,000 jobs during construction and 70 full-time jobs when completed. Tribal members would receive per capita payments from the any revenues.
Last month, the tribe voted 193-132 in favor of the terminal.
