Narragansett Tribe seeks protections for site

The Narragansett Tribe of Rhode Island is seeking to set aside a historical property that was almost the site of a cellular phone tower.

Sprint Spectrum agreed to move the tower after the tribe noted the presence of rock formations on the property. The layout of the formations indicated they were placed there by humans as a possible trail, ceremonial site or entrance to a village.

Telecommunications companies are required to work with tribes if historic or cultural sites are impacted.
