Woman counters Coburn on forced sterilization

A women who was sterilized by Republican U.S. Senate candidate Tom Coburn said he acted without her consent.

Angela Plummer sued Coburn for medical malpractice and fraud. She said she never asked to be sterilized even though she had a difficult pregnancy and one of her fallopian tubes had to be removed.

Coburn removed the other one without permission, Plummer said. He then told her and her mother not to talk about it because the procedure was not covered by Medicaid for people under 21. Plummer was 20 at the time.

Coburn has denied doing anything wrong. He filed a claim with Medicaid that did not report the sterilization. Plummer's lawsuit was eventually dismissed because she failed to follow through with the complaint.
