Former executive pleads guilty to stealing from tribe

A former executive for the Assiniboine and Gros Ventre tribes of Montana pleaded guilty to stealing more than $97,000 through an unauthorized debit card.

Gregory Morris Powderface, 36, is a tribal member. He served in a number of positions within the tribal businesses before being awarded contracts to help the tribe's insurance company.

The contract did not allow for reimbursement but Powderface set up debit cards to pay for numerous expenses, authorities said. The Department of Interior's Office of Inspector General investigated the embezzlement.

Powderface could get jail time, supervised release and a fine for the crime.
