First Nation wants dangerous gas well shut down

The chief of the Enoch Cree First Nation in Alberta wants to shut down a 52-year-old gas well whose leak forced the evacuation of the reserve.

The leak was discovered on Sunday, leading to the evacuation of 800 residents. Then when most of the residents returned on Monday, the well exploded into a fire.

The fire has been stopped but 22 families living closest to the well are still homeless. The well continues to leak dangerous fumes.
