Fort Belknap president resigns, citing health problems

The president of the Fort Belknap Indian Community in Montana resigned last week, citing health problems.

Darrell Martin, a member of the Gros Ventre tribe, has assumed the post only a year ago. He had replaced Ben Speakthunder, a member of the Assiniboine tribe, who unexpectedly resigned.

The new president will be Julia Doney, an Assiniboine who was Martin's vice president. The Fort Belknap constitution requires the president and the vice-president to be of different tribes.
