First Indian woman lawmaker gets into the groove

Theresa Two Bulls, a member of the Oglala Sioux Tribe, is the first Indian woman to serve in the South Dakota Legislature.

Two Bulls is a Democrat who was elected in November. She represents the Pine Ridge Reservation in the state Senate and hopes to do so for a long time, she says.

A former secretary and vice president of her tribe, Two Bulls said the state system is very different from the tribal one. She thinks the tribal council should consider modeling itself after the state legislature.
