The sale of a golf course must be halted because the Musqueam First Nation of British Columbia wasn't consulted, the B.C. Court of Appeal ruled on Monday.

The B.C. government is currently negotiating a treaty with the Musqueam Band. But the government sold the golf course -- which sits on Crown land and is claimed by the band -- anyway. The course is in an affluent area of Vancouver.

The B.C. Court of Appeal said the decision violates the treaty process because First Nations must be consulted about decisions affecting aboriginal territories.
