Cheyenne ancestors return home for final burial

The remains of four Southern and Northern Cheyenne ancestors were laid to rest in Piedmont, South Dakota, near sacred Bear Butte.

The remains were repatriated from four locations across the country. They are believed to be the first Southern and Northern Cheyenne to be reburied in South Dakota.

Representatives of the Cheyenne & Arapaho Tribes of Oklahoma and the Northern Cheyenne Tribe of Montana participated in the reburial ceremony at the Piedmont Cemetery.
