Program aims to keep Native students in school

A biology professor at Newman University in Kansas has created a program to help Native American students stay in school.

Native students have the highest dropout rate in the Wichita school district. Last year, 5.5 percent of Natives in grades seven through 12 did not finish school, higher than the 3.8 percent average.

Professor Surendra Singh hopes to change the situation. He created a semester-long program at Newman to encourage Native students to finish high school and go to college.
