Pombo collected $40K from tribes so far this year

Rep. Richard Pombo (R-California), the chairman of the House Resources Committee, has accepted $40,400 in donations from tribes so far this year, The Fresno Bee reports.

The contributors include the Prairie Island Indian Community in Minnesota, the Hoopa Valley Tribe of California, the Gila River Indian Community from Arizona, the Osage Nation of Oklahoma, the St. Regis Mohawk Tribe of New York and the Cherokee Nation from Oklahoma.

The Bee says that tribal donations account for 40 percent of the funds Pombo has raised so far this year. Tribal leaders say they can turn to Pombo on important issues like gaming, sovereignty and trust reform.
