Marquette University to decide on 'Warriors' name

The Marquette University will announce a decision this week on whether to revive its old "Warriors" nickname.

The school changed to the Golden Eagles in 1994 after 40 years of using the "Warriors name" and an Indian logo. The "Willie Wampum" mascot was eliminated in 1971 and later replaced by a "First Warriors" mascot.

Some alumni are pushing for return to the old name because some trustees offered $1 million if the nickname was revived. The Great Lakes Inter-Tribal Council opposes the change.
