Schaghticoke chief to testfy at recognition hearing

Chief Richard Velky of the Schaghticoke Tribal Nation of Connecticut will testify at a Senate Indian Affairs Committee hearing on federal recognition, The New London Day reports.

Velky is just one of many from Connecticut who will appear at the May 11 hearing. State Gov. M. Jodi Rell (R), Sens. Joe Lieberman (D) and Chris Dodd (D), and Reps. Nancy Johnson (R), Chris Shays (R) and Rob Simmons (R) are all said to be on the witness list.

Sen. John McCain (R-Arizona), the chairman of the committee, called the hearing. He said he has concerns about the slow-moving process and the influence of outside investors.
