Michigan tribes work with Army Corps on burial ground

Two Michigan tribes will be working with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the City of Sault Ste. Marie to protect an ancient burial ground.

Representatives of the Sault Tribe of Chippewa Indians and the Bay Mills Indian Community said they were pleased with the new arrangement. They want to keep people away from the burial ground, located in a city park, while it is being excavated.

A fence will be erected around the site to keep visitors away. Some artifacts have already been uncovered and it is believed some remains will be found.
