Mississippi Band teams up with college to offer degree

The Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians signed a partnership with East Central Community College on Monday to offer an associate degree program in hotel and restaurant management.

The tribe and the college will offer courses at the tribe's Pearl River Resort. Students will be trained to become managers in the hospitality and tourism business.

Chief Phillip Martin said the program is open to the 5,000 people who work at the resort as well as the public. About 20 students are expected to sign up for classes beginning in August.
