Opinion: Poncas ignored again over state quarter

"[Ponca Chief] Standing Bear was a Nebraskan. He represented the good things about our state n resourcefulness, good citizenry, respect of nature and a sense of home.

Unfortunately, with our new quarter selection, school children throughout the United States will be taught about how a crumbling rock at the west end of our state was a landmark to the folks trying to leave Nebraska because of what we lacked, instead of a quarter that might have represented the aspects of the people who tried to stay in Nebraska because of what we possess.

As history does repeat itself, perhaps we can again right a wrong before it's too late, and put Standing Bear on the Nebraska quarter."
