Wampanoag Tribe wants sacred site protected

The Aquinnah Wampanoag Tribe of Massachusetts is hoping it can work out an agreement to protect a sacred site threatened by a housing development.

The tribe doesn't think the development can be halted but wants to preserve the site, located in the town of Stow. The site includes a large boulder known as Indian Hunting Rock, a stand of bent trees and a large mortar hollowed from the stone.

Town leaders have so far resisted efforts to work with the tribe. The developer, Habitech, says the land isn't sacred.
