Scientists begin study of Kennewick Man remains

A group of 11 scientists began their study of the 9,000-year-old remains of the Kennewick Man.

The remains were discovered on federal land that used to be part of the Umatilla Reservation in Washington. They were the subject of a lengthy Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act battle but the courts ruled that four tribes could not rebury him.

Scientists now say the study will give them a better idea of how the Americas were populated. Among other issues, they want to know how Kennewick Man died.
