More protests as Navajo Nation Council holds session


Protests greeted the Navajo Nation Council as delegates met for a second day on Tuesday.

This time it was the National Native American Youth Coalition, which urged passage of a major education reform law. Delegates approved the Sovereignty in Education Act of 2005 by a 59-19 vote.

On Monday, tribal members held a protests against a $2 billion power plant on the New Mexico side of the reservation and another one against the Peabody coal mines on the Arizona side.
