Former Walker River fire official to pay restitution


The former assistant fire chief for the Walker River Paiute Tribe's fire department was ordered to pay $13,856 in restitution for stealing money from the Nevada tribe.

Elvin Willie Jr., who was also the fire department's treasurer, pleaded guilty to one count of embezzlement from a tribal organization. He used an ATM card to withdraw more than $19,000 in tribal funds.

Willie is reportedly a current Indian Health Service employee.
