Voters oust chairman of Eastern Cherokee council

Members of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians ousted the chairman of the tribal council and re-elected nine incumbents on Thursday.

Albert Crowe, who was seeking a third term on the council, said he was surprised by his removal. He will be replaced by Dan McCoy as the representative of the Birdtown community.

Other newcomers include David T. Wolfe, who will represent the Yellowhill community, and Carroll J. Peewee Crowe, who will represent the Wolfetown and Big Y communities. The remaining nine seats were won by incumbents.

Principal Chief Michell Hicks and Vice Chief Larry Blythe were not up for re-election.
