Web site won't show video of Native walrus hunt

A popular web site that broadcasts video from Round Island in Alaska will turn off its cameras during an Alaska Native walrus hunt.

The Alaska SeaLife Center agreed to turn off the cameras at the request of Native leaders who are worried that viewing of the hunt will turn public sentiments against the traditional hunt. Walrus meat, ivory and bone are used by nine villages.

The cameras are focused on a spot on the island where Native hunters shoot and butcher the animals.
