Man claims discrimination over license renewal

A Creek man in Alabama says he was treated differently when he went to renew his driver's license because he is Native American.

Jody Bass was asked to provide his birth certificate after identifying himself as Native American. In the past, he said he was never asked to do so as long as he had his old license.

"I felt it's just a taste of what my ancestors must have felt like over 200 years ago when they were finally forced out of Alabama," Bass told WSFA-TV.

The Department of Public Safety says it has implemented new procedures to strengthen identity protection. An employee did ask for the birth certificate but the department says the incident was a misunderstanding.
