The Chitimacha Tribe of Louisiana has welcomed tribal members affected by Hurricane Katrina and Hurricane Rita back to the reservation.

Before the hurricanes, only 300 people lived on the reservation. Now, at least 75 have come back home because they have nowhere to go. Many of them lived in New Orleans. "They've lost everything," said Tricia Mora, the vice chairwoman of the tribe, according to the Associated Press.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency has provided temporary homes for the evacuees. The tribe will determine whether more long-term housing is needed on the 260-acre reservation.

The National Congress of American Indians [NCAI], the First Nations Development Institute [FNDI] and the National Indian Gaming Association [NIGA] are holding a press conference tomorrow to give an update about hurricane relief efforts in Indian Country. The conference takes place at 2:00pm at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C [Web Site].
