The House Resources Committee voted 21-6 on Wednesday to approve a resolution that supports the Makah Nation's treaty rights.

Five Democrats joined 16 Republicans in voting for the H.CON.RES.267. Five other Democrats -- including Rep. Jay Inslee (D-Washington), who called the nonbinding measure a political stunt -- voted against it.

Rep. Richard Pombo (R-California), the chairman of the committee, introduced the resolution. It calls for the United States to honor the 1855 Treaty of Neah Bay, which guarantees the tribe's right to hunt whale.
