Cherokee group in Alabama still wants tax exemption

A group in Alabama called the Cherokee River Indian Community isn't giving up efforts to gain tax-exemption status for its enterprises.

The group filed a claim with the Alabama Department of Revenue but the case has been dismissed. So its leaders are now seeking exemptions for its church, volunteer fire department and the chairman's housing and utilities.

Steve Bison, vice chairman, says the group is being discriminated because churches and even the non-recognized Mowa Choctaw Indians have been given tax exemptions.
