Suquamish Tribe to break ground on luxury hotel

The Suquamish Tribe of Washington will break ground on a 75-room luxury hotel in hopes of attracting tourists to the area.

The four-story, 56,000-square-foot hotel is set to open in summer 2006. It is located on a plot of land currently used for tribal housing, which will be torn down.

The project is part of the tribe's growing business enterprise. The casino was recently expanded and the tribe bought a lodge last year.

In related news, Leonard Forsman has been elected chairman of the tribal council, ousting incumbent Bennie Armstrong. Linda Holt was elected secretary over incumbent Roger Contraro.
